.What will be your LEGACY after you die ??.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

People come into this world, and people leave.

You too will have to leave some day.

What remains behind is the remembrance and proof of what they did or built here while being alive.
Actors and Directors leave their films for generations to see ... great statesmen leave their words and policies, laws and social reforms... there are some regular everyday Joes and Janes who are forgotten more easily than the other not so ordinary people.

Artists and Creative people are in a comfortable position where they can leave something visual, thought provoking and tangible in terms of shorts, animation, characters, fantasy worlds and paintings and concepts that came out of so extremely unique individual minds.

I visit www.deathclock.com everytime I feel discouraged and it acts as a catalyst to my creative process. Yes the clock is ticking fast and the countdown to the Judgement day is on... The question is weather you will be counted among the Leonardos, Raphaels, Dalis, Picassos, Spielbergs and Kurosawas in the times to come after you are gone.... or you will just become a Photograph in the Obituary column of your local newspaper just to be remembered for a day.

What will be your Legacy ? ... and are you working towards realizing it ??

Remember thats the only way any of us can ever achieve Immortality. Through our work.
I'd say , sleep less and work more... before you become a Photograph.

Sure, A legacy among our friends and family is unavoidable. Our family and friends will definitely remember us for the times spent with them. This is inevitable for almost everyone living in a society on this planet. What I mean is what can we do beyond that (which requires more effort ) on our part that can affect the lives of people in coming generations,

Can we forget Wright Brothers, James watt, Edison, Babbage, Copernicus, Galileo, Leonardo .... we might not remember them everyday in our lives but what they did in their lives still affects us generations later. Weather Art and Design can affect lives of people is another issue altogether. What I think is obvious and important is to give back to your parents, Be nice to people, and live life to the fullest (which can be a selfish concept at times).

Today a stranger sitting in a remote corner of the world can know who Michelangelo was or read the lines written by shakespere centuries back. Thats the legacy I'm talking about. This in no way means you should close your doors from the rest of the world and become a bookworm, a 24/7 computerJunkie or a self obsessed recluse. In this jungle of Job shifts, impending project deadlines, bank balances, snazzy cars and Hi tech Gizmos, I think we must give a thought to what are we going to take with us.

Nothing.

At least we can leave something behind ? A Legacy.

However you may define it, at least you gave a thought to it. Working or not working towards it is an individual choice. Legacy or not really doesn't matter to you because you are dead anyway, right? But isn't it important to live a meaningful life? If there's nothing to aspire for and no targets and deadlines to meet, life would become so drab and dull. everyone would be so lazy and laid back that we would never work or think hard. Its like being given the boon of immortality and death taken away from you forever. We know death is there somewhere and thats reason enough to get up and start working every morning.

Legacy is just a positive way of looking at death. So let us give it our best shot, whatever it means to us individually, just as we live our lives in so very unique ways to each of us, lets make our legacy very unique and individually tailored for all of us. ... But Let us Leave one.
